Story Shards
"Story Shards"
Each Shard you get, when you click on it, you see a new cut scene... and they could have different story lines...
Like lets say right outside of ascalon city u find "Gwens Story, Shard 1" you click on it and you see what happens to gwen durring the searing, and at the end we see her traveling to a new place, then when we get there we find a "Gwens Story, Shard 2" you click on it and you see more info, and once you finish the whole story line, you
discover Gwens location, or unlock a new town!
They could also have other story lines and the shards once viewed disapear, but you can access it from a special "Shard menu"

Interesting idea. I think it could add depth to the next expansion of excecuted correctly. If the shards are random drops, they should be kept away from the main game progression though. And it would be nightmarish hunting a short for hours at a time so you can go to a town and get __ skill.

Towns unlocked from story shards will also be able to be unlocked any other way, it would just be an alternative way to unlock certain towns, (Or how about it just leads you to secret locations that other people can get to if they know the way?)

This is a bloody cool idea!!!!
This is an awesome idea!!!
Prior to this, the goals of any quest >> Kill this thing, protect this thing from being killed, meet these people (followed by kill something), find this item (probably being held by something you must kill), defend this area by killing the intruders...
Except for the bergen hotsprings quest, which is really just a messenger boy quest, this is a long and drawn out detective quest... It's very very cool. Especially if the cutscene or accompanying text on the shard only gave you hints (and no marker) as to where the next shard is.
/emphatically and enthusiastically signed... Anet read this!!! This is a whole new perspective on the game.

/signed for an excellent idea! This will allow a.net to expand the story any way they want by getting more then one view of it out there! Furthermore it gives them the ability to control the story at thier leisure, for instance if they find the story lacking in one department they can expand on it a little with the story shards. So not only would it be a neat thing to go out looking for to add depth and personality to the story line, for those whom find it lacking a little, or just because , but it also acts as a neat and powerful little tool for the developers should they feel the need to "Tweek" an existing story line just a little bit should the need arise!
Very good idea!

Ok I know this next part is a little bit of a strech but if implemented it would be an AMAZINGLY popular Gold Sink...
What a.net would do, would release a set of tools, that alowed the players to make there OWN story shards!! And then when they submit the shards to A.Net for approval, for the low cost fee of a celestial sigil. Uppon aproval, 250 Story shards will be dumped into the submiters inventory. This will alow the fan fiction players an oppourtunity they have NEVER had before in ANY game, wich would be EXTREAMLY apealing to them.... The main propblem with this one is.... the costs to implement it...
1) The story shards approval people
2) The server load supporting hundreds of these...
3) Allowing Developers tools into the publics hand will reveal to GW's Competators exactly how they do there AMAZING cutscenes

id rather have collectable books. like in morrowind. (sorry)
if you find more chapters of a certain book you could combine them, so they wont clogg up inventory space. like in ao (sorry)
some of them would just tell stories. some of them would tell legends, that COULD lead to quests. maybe there are hidden places, that, IF you have read that certain story, hold portal to special quest areas....
there are numerous possibilities.
text isnt that much data intensive i guess.
but anyway, that reeks like too much work for now.... something not too important, but a lot of potential in it.
